Packaging Machinery

There are many types of packaging machines, each contributing to the output of a product and its eventual shipment. Some machinery packages, fills and secures products prior to shipment. Other machines reduce labor costs and streamline the shipping process by automatically creating corrugated boxes, taping them and finally, shrink wrapping the boxes onto pallets for transport. In addition to cost savings these machines provide, they also speed up the production process and yield more consistent, secure shipments compared to manual methods.

Types of Packaging Machines

Shrink Wrapping Machines

The most popular shrink wrapping machines are horizontal also known as “orbital” wrapping machines and vertical wrapping machines. Horizontal wrappers are great for wrapping individual objects ranging in size from small tubing to large and oddly shaped furniture. Vertical wrappers are also called pallet wrapping machines and as their name suggests, they are used to wrap stacks of pallets on a built-in turntable.

Both types of machines have modern touchscreen interfaces, object detection sensors and smart operation capability. In addition, they can be programmed to work in automation lines alongside other machines and robots.

Orbital Stretch Wrappers

Orbital stretch wrappers use two conveyors, placed before and after a wrapping ring. The conveyors pull objects through the ring as the stretch wrapping mechanism wraps the objects. Orbital wrapping machines are by far the most versatile and capable stretch wrappers. They can be highly customized and built for implementation into automation cells with robotic arms or slides feeding objects into the wrapping ring instead of the traditional conveyor tables. Because of this, they’re also the superior wrapping solution for very long or strangely shaped objects including couches, metal profiles, pipe and tubing, windows, doors and more.

Pallet Wrappers

The next most popular type of stretch wrapping unit is the turntable or “pallet wrapper”. These machines are affordable and like their orbital counterparts, make an immediate impact in a facility or warehouse. Pallet wrappers save workers’ backs, freeing them up to spend time on more productive tasks. The nicer pallet wrappers possess the ability to pre-stretch the stretch wrap which means tighter, more secure loads and the best possible usage of materials, which translates to thousands of dollars of annual savings as film waste is no longer a problem.
